  • What is a Process Server?

    A Process Server is someone who is a neutral third party that may be appointed, certified, or licensed by the court of jurisdiction, county, state, or federal government to deliver legal papers and documents to parties to a lawsuit. 

  • Why do I need a Process Server?

    Many courts require a neutral third party to notify the parties to a lawsuit that they are being sued, and a response is needed to the court of jurisdiction.

  • How can I pay?

    Clients can order online via our website or we can email an invoice. 

  • I want to pay by check, can I mail the check with the papers?

    No. We do not accept checks at this time.

  • Do you give discounts?

    No. We offer special rates to our contracted returning clients that are specific to their account. These special rates are based on volume of at least 20 cases per month or more. 

    We also offer specials from time to time for new, returning, and contracted clients.

  • How do you charge?

    • We charge by the type and number of citations, summons, precept, and notice. We also look at the service area/zip that the paper(s) are going to. We charge per paper, per address. 
    • If multiple papers are going to the same address for the same person (residential) we may place a small discount on the other papers that have a return or affiant attached. 
    • Papers going to the same address (residential) but to a different person, we do not offer any fee adjustments. 
    • Papers going to the same address (business), we do not offer any adjustments. 
  • Can i pay after the service is performed?

    No. All our services require prepayment and/or a retainer for Private Investigation services. We will not schedule or start any service without receiving pre-payment.

  • How many attempts do you make?

    Our standard service includes up to 3 attempts, printing up to 30 pages, and return of service or affidavit for the quote provided.

  • What if I need more than 3 attempts?

    If you want or need additional attempts, we charge $25 per additional attempt. 

  • What if I have more than 30 pages and want printing in color?

    If your document is more than 30 pages, we charge a printing fee of $0.15 per page (black and white) and $0.25 per page  (color)

  • How much do service of process cost?

    Pricing vary depending on where the papers are coming from (i.e., out of state) County, City, and/or Zip code party to be served is located (rural areas cost more), difficulty in locating serve, how soon a court date, hearing, etc., is scheduled, whether or not service is routine, rush, same day, etc. The number of pages and type of document being served also play a factor in price. 

  • Can a person being served refuse papers?

    That would depend. Some states do not allow a party being served to refuse service. Some types of documents may not be refused. So this really depends on many variables. 

  • What type of service(s) do you offer?

    We offer variable services that include Routine/Standard, Rush/Expedited, and Same day (if received before 9 am Central time. We also have an On Demand service where we place everything on hold in order to try to get your emergency papers served.

  • Can you serve someone in jail or in a State or Federal facility?

    In most cases, Yes.

  • What if I do not know where the person is located?

    We offer a service called Skip Tracing to help us locate the address of the individual who needs to be served. That is a separate service with a separate fee. 

  • Do you provide photos and/or video evidence?

    For our safety and verification purposes, we do take date-time-stamped photos with most of our attempt services. However, depending on many variables, we may or may not be able to share that information without a court order. Also, if you need a service video taped, that would require a Private Investigator on staff to perform that service and a more detailed contract would also be required.

  • I have multiple parties that need to be served. Can you see if you can serve those individuals that are not in your service area if needed?

    Yes, as long as they are in the State of Texas, we can service all parties or use our network of trusted servers to handle those parties if needed. We usually do this by direct referral unless the client wants Swan Legal Services LLC to oversee that part of the process. 

  • What is Courier, Court Filing and Court Retrieval?

    Courier services for our purposes include picking up items from one business and delivering them to another business. Sometimes, the other business may be a courthouse for filing legal papers and/or picking up legal papers from the clerk of court. This service entails secure, timely, and confidential papers and/or items being picked up and delivered to the attorney, clerk of court, business, government offices and/or facilities, etc. 


    Court Filing is where we file client paperwork with the clerk of court that has jurisdiction. With this service, we also obtain a certified copy and deliver the certified papers back to client. 


    Court Retrieval is where the client need us to pick up filed papers from the clerk of court and deliver them to designated party.

  • What type of papers do you file?

    We handle a lot of court filings that include, but not limited to: 

    • Petitions and Complaints 
    • Pleadings, Motions, Proof of Service 
    • Family Law Documents 
    • Bankruptcy Documents 
    • Civil and Legal Case Filings 
    • Subpoenas and other allowable court filings 
  • What if the court rejects the papers that need to be filed?

    We have no control over whether or not the court will reject any papers that we present for filing. Since we do not populate the documents, we do charge another fee to refile your corrected 

    papers. 

  • Do you offer E-filing services?

    At this time, we do not offer E-filing services due to the many errors that are associated with E-filing. Our process is to ensure that the client receives the return or affidavit, review the document for errors, and request corrections if needed before the client files the return or affidavit with the appropriate court. 

  • What type of courts do you service?

    We service documents from all courts that include Commissioners, District, Family, Federal, Circuit, Appellate, etc. 

  • What does a Private Investigator do?

    Private Investigators are professionals who help you solve a problem by gathering facts and factual information for you. They can't break laws, commit crimes to gather facts and/or information and do not have access to certain information. However, Private Investigators do have access to information most civilians do not have access to. 


    Private Investigators can perform background checks, skip trace to locate individuals for allowable legal reasons, investigate family law cases like adultery, child custody, missing persons, asset searches, debugging and/or theft or other crimes. 


    Private Investigators can be hired to interview witnesses, suspects, and complainants in civil and sometimes criminal matters. Perform photo and/or video surveillance, monitor activity, track a 

    target movements, locate missing people, and much more. Private Investigators can assist in many legal allowable ways with and sometimes without an attorney.

  • Who can hire a Private Investigator?

    Anyone can hire a Private Investigator. 

  • Why does someone hire a Private Investigator?

    People hire Private Investigators for many reasons. A few common reasons include:

  • How much does a Private Investigator cost and how to pay?

    Hiring a Private Investigator is not cheap. Depending on the services needed, some Private Investigators charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or require a retainer. In either situation, services are prepaid and non-refundable. 


    Swan Legal Services LLC hourly rate for Private Investigations starts at $125. Depending on the type of service needed, clients can purchase a block of time with minimum hours starting at 2 hour and go up from there. 


    Our flat rate services can include services like Skip Trace to locate an individual address to serve legal papers. Our Skip Trace services start at $75 per search. Services that require a retainer or deposit before certain services are started include asset searches, judgement recovery services, surveillance services.
